“We do not “come into” this world; we come out of it, as leaves from a tree. As the ocean “waves,” the universe “peoples.””- Alan Watts

    RIP

Rest In Peace, my friend Dave Schubert. I always admired how you approached your photography, getting in and out of wild spots, breaking cameras, your body, head, and face trying to get a photo. It was important. Each frame had a great elaborate story that somehow referenced the entire history of photography and mankind. Each frame was momentous.

It was, is, and will continue to be inspiring. In your honor, I hope to infuse more passion and devotion into my own photography.

    Focusers

Time and energy are the obvious important resources, yet “focus” may be the most crucial. If they (would-be corruptors) can get to your focus first, then your time energy space spice money and mind are up for grabs next. Cracking your focus is cracking the egg shell of your egg mind.

Can it really be this sinister? Yes. If you are not working on your dream, then you are working on someone else’s.

Fortify your eggs, deepen your focus.

    Oscillationers

“The pendulum of the mind oscillates between sense and nonsense, not between right and wrong.” – Carl Jung

A nice one illustrating how our own entire life is simply an argument for our own unique perspective, bound by our oscillations, and regardless of morals. Thus the importance of gaining perspective(s) and expanding awareness(es), that is to navigate the cosmos.

“Be melting snow. Wash yourself of yourself.” – Rumi

This one suggests that the oscillations that form the boundaries of our perspective are ego based, that we can reset these boundaries by melting them. That is if you care for expansion, or more importantly that it makes sense to you.

    Navigators

There is a mindset paradox where on one hand you are full and on the other hand you are still hungry. Ambition is not synonymous with contentment, in fact they are on different teams, are we supposed to choose a team?

Thinking about it in this one or the other way, you can see the shadow sides of both. Ambition can be corrupted by greed envy etc, while contentment can lead to laziness detachment etc. There is a balance.

On our boat of purpose, we will need both eagerness and gratitude (among other things like focus, bravery, intestinal fortitude, etc) to navigate the murky waters and find the most flowingest of flows.

    Prosperors

Happy New Year! To you and your people, live long and prosper!

Allow yourself some prosperity, allow yourself some fun.

Your invitation to the next level has arrived, do you accept?

    Actualizationers

Alright, let’s cut the shit. Sometimes there are people that are too cool to read or upgrade. These people say they already have everything they need. These people are liars. Quit lying, liars.

A psychologist named Abraham Maslow created a model to better understand what drives human behavior, “Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs”. (Google it.) It is in the shape of a pyramid with the first level being physiological needs (food, shelter, etc) and the last one, the top of the pyramid, self-actualization needs (realization of potential).

“What a man can be, he must be.”

Everyone has needs. And since life is ever-changing, meeting our needs becomes ever-adapting. And with each adaptation there are new potentialities.

Understanding this is to also understand motivations. Everyone is behaving in a certain way, for better or for worse, in order to feel better about their priorities of particular needs.

Sure we are perfect as is, sure we have accomplished a lot already. Yet there is always another level to reach. Not just for the sake of productivity, but for a sense of purpose. Not just material purpose, but for evolution of the human species.

If we can imagine a nugget, then we have an un-actualized nugget waiting for actualization.

If we can dream a nugget, then we must realize a nugget.

Think a nugget, a nugget appears.

    Infinity nuggets.

    Fumi

A work trip to rainy SF for a weekend. Just recalling now that we went for dinner with a bunch of people and Kappy mentioned to the waitress that it was my birthday, “Nah, not my birthday.” And that was that. But it was! I had forgotten my birthday was a week before. I should’ve played along. Still fun tho.

I’m usually on 18th these days, this time I stayed on 24th Street. It was a pleasant surprise going to all my old spots coffee shops and restaurants and they remembered me from years before.
